After the peaceful and even optimistic marches organized by students in Paris, protests against the CPE turned into riots between police and protestors which were sometimes extremely violent. A mix of extreme-leftist militants, suburban youths and students dreaming of a new "May 68" used these protests to fight anti-riot police, vandalize cars and shops, and beat protestors and bystanders.

Several months after the riots of November 2005 which set fire to suburbs all over France, the violent protests reached this time the heart of Paris and other major French cities. These events revealed a youth who see violence as the only way to exist and do not augur well for France.
